You know that excited, happy feeling when you sit down to start reading a great book? I get that feeling this time of year. Like, ooh boy, what's going to happen?!
One of my favorite inspirations for planning the year comes from Colleen Wainwright. I stumbled across her articles, "Act Smart!: Five things to put in place NOW for a good next year," and "Act Smart!: The Magic of Interlocking Goals" years ago and find myself coming back to them to jump start my planning each December. (They have a lot of relevance for all walks of life, not just acting.)
Back in 2013, my interlocking goal was to write/produce a short film. It was aptly named "Resolution" and became a terrific opportunity for growth as an actor and as a more rounded industry professional. It ended up being a fun little film and even won the audience award at the A Place Called Sacramento Film Festival that year.
I'm excited to get hopping on those 2015 goals. In an industry where so much is out of an individual's locus of control, it's immensely gratifying to set measurable, attainable goals and to create and follow a plan to achieve them.
As I was recently reminded by Joe Carnahan via a Skype session with CFAA, there's no substitute for hard work. So, let's get those plans in gear and get to work!
Have you set your 2015 resolutions? What inspires you?
