I like plans. I relish New Year's Resolutions. I always set a few primary goals to keep my focus in the acting world. Quite honestly, it keeps my sanity. I mean, with most of the industry being out of my control, I'm thankful for a couple crumbs of my own.
This year, long form improvisation was one of my big metaphorical crumbs. I've always had fun with improv and certainly used it to fill a void on stage or in an audition, but long form is definitely a beast of it's own! It's the dichotomy of comedy; if it had a sign, it would be a Gemini. (That's why we get along so well I think. We Gemini kids have to stick together!) Here's what I mean:
See what I mean?! I'm loving it though. It gets me out of my head (where I tend to get stuck) and there's a satisfaction in the doing, even if it means bombing now and then.

Improv Cage Match Team "Midnight Munchies"
We took this photo right before an Improv Cage Match show at Sacramento Comedy Spot. Sadly, we didn't move on to the next round that night, but I did get to be a dust bunny for a few moments so I'd say it's about even where winning is concerned.
Possibly the best part of all this is that it has made a really big difference in my audition performances for quirky characters. I just booked another in July!! More on that later...
Have you studied improv? I'd love to hear about it. I'm looking to make some plans for 2016!
